What is Compounding-
What is compounding?
Compounding is personalizing medications based on a prescriber’s
prescription to meet an individual patient need. Compounding utilizes
raw chemicals or powders to formulate a prescription in the exact
strength and dosage form that your doctor requested.
We often compare it to cooking or baking in which one would use a
recipe and combine multiple ingredients to create a desired outcome.
Why would I need a compounded prescription?
The need for a compounded prescription typically arises from the need
for a medication that is not commercially available. The following are a
few examples of why we would compound your medication:
- Customized strength or dosage
- Manufactured medication is no longer available
- Allergy to fillers or dyes
- Flavor a medication to make it more palatable for a child or pet
- Customized strength or dosage
